The Miami International Boat Show was a great success for Gray Taxidermy! We do not promote our product directly to the public; instead, we have spent over 50 years supporting captains and mates as agents for Gray Taxidermy and will continue to do so. Our presence at the show was effective at displaying our product line to the public. These trade shows are also used to reach out to new marinas and captains throughout the world.
At The Miami Boat Show our media friends surrounded the booth. Many of our international marinas were present and new relationships were made with other marinas as Gray Taxidermy continues to grow. Gray Taxidermy was able to proudly show customers and crews our product and our new and improved paint schemes.
We know how hard you guys are working in the field to promote Gray Taxidermy. We want to help make it easier by becoming familiar with our Gray Team and our new products. We would like to welcome all new agents throughout the Caribbean, Bahamas, and Mexico, as well as our new teams here in The States. Stay tuned for the Gray Team in your area as we continue to hit the road!
Special thanks to Chris Fischer of Fischer Productions as well as Jodi, Brett and their crew!!! We love you!
...that 94% of all hunters also fish?
The reverse is not the case though. Only 18% of fishermen hunt. When you’re setting up the day, ask if your clients hunt. Most hunters love trophies and can be your target client for mounting a fish. Also, it is a great way to cross-sell our freshwater products as well. Hunters love to mount animals and fish!
With the start up of this newsletter, we knew we wanted to highlight our captains and bring you information on what’s happening with Gray Taxidermy. The Captain of the Month and the Mate of the Month program has been a big hit!
The determination of Captain of the month comes from a random drawing. Each month, for every order placed with Gray Taxidermy, the captain’s name will be entered in a drawing. At the end of the month, one name will be drawn from all entries.
The winner will be featured in the following month’s newsletter as the Captain of the Month, and will be awarded REACTORS GRAVITON 2 watch (The Official Watch of Gray Taxidermy) as well as a Trophy plaque with an engraved plate showing them as Captain of month. And if you’re wondering – yes, you can win with only one order! Get as many orders in as you can to increase your chances!
We would like to recognize and applaud the involvement of our sponsors of both of these programs. As mentioned, REACTOR Watches have given us a really cool watch to give away to our Captain of the Month for each newsletter. Costa Del Mar also stepped up to supply a pair of Sunglasses for the Mate of the Month. It’s really awesome each month to get the names pulled and let the winners know! So keep up the good work!
Another Sponsor we want to thank is Pelagic! They have stood behind every program for Captains and Mates, and they understand how important you guys are to their business. They will continue to support the guys who work in the trade and We Love It! Way To Go Pelagic!! So, BIG Thanks to all these sponsors for believing in Gray Taxidermy and our Captains!
Captain Drosey grew up in Cape May, New Jersey where he first started fishing as a young boy. He received his Captain’s License in 1979. Captain of the Osprey, you can find him fishing out of Ocean City, Maryland – Sunset Marina, Palm Beach, Florida – Sailfish Marina, Isla Mujeres, Mexico – Isla Mujeres Marina & Yacht Club as well as the Bahamas. Captain Joe has made charter fishing his full-time profession. He has served as a mentor to many captains and mates in the charter industry. With numerous tournament and record holder titles, his experience in Atlantic Coast fishing is incomparable. His passion for this sport is evident and he is quick to share his expertise. He is world renown, and is ranked as one of the ‘top ten' charter boat captains on the East Coast.
From all of us at Gray Taxidermy, Congratulations Captain Joe!! Tight Lines, and Bountiful Mounts…
“I have been fishing since I was 3 years old. My dad took me out to our dock on Biscayne Bay and put a Mickey Mouse/Zebco rod and reel combination in my hands. I always knew I was going to be a fishing guide, or a marine biologist. I got my captains' license when I was 19.
I had a great opportunity to take part on a trip, fishing our way down to Venezuela aboard a 57' Spencer called the "Stalker" out of Lighthouse Point, Florida Captained by George Sawley. It was packed with a few grand slams, some valuable knowledge, crossing the Caribbean through a hurricane, and the first big Blue Marlin I got to be a part of.
Captain Bouncer Smith contacted me in January, 2009, to come work for him fulltime and the rest was history. I have been with Capt. Bouncer for over 3 years now. He has been my greatest teacher and skipper of all and will always be a legend in sport fishing. Him and I have caught a lot of fish and had a lot of fun in over a thousand trips together and counting. I am forever grateful to him for all he has done for me as we continue our pursuit of Sailfish, Swordfish, Tarpon and anything that swims in south Florida and the Caribbean.”
Mate of the Month is chosen the same way as Captain of the Month. As Mate of the Month, the winner is awarded a pair of Costa Del Mar sunglasses as well as a plaque from Gray Taxidermy. Congratulations Captain Abie – We couldn’t do it without you!
Last month Gray Taxidermy blazed across the coast of Costa Rica. Starting at the Nicaraguan boarder and finishing in Panama, we visited almost every charter boat in between and found the country is exploding with tourists and traveling fishermen! After speaking with countless numbers of customers and crews while on our travels, we learned the numbers are up! The boats are sailing, the people are fired up, and the Gray Taxidermy message, “Mount Your Catch,” is spreading.
Costa Rican regulations require that all billfish are catch and release. Circle hooks are a must. Even with these pressures, the release mounts are a huge success! Upon arriving in Los Suenos Marina, we hadn’t even got out of the rent-a-car when we saw a Trophy Flag flying from the rigger of the Spanish Fly run by Daniel Espinoza. On every dock, the boys are using the new Gray Gear. This includes the Discount Coupons, Trophy Flags, Release Certificates, and the new Catch Certificate. Even the boats equipped with TVs are using the Gray Taxidermy Charter Boat Video. As politicians continue to control and close our fisheries, we continue to bring you the tools necessary to mount trophy fish whether harvested or released. It is our goal to offer training and develop any crews that ask for assistance. It is also our goal to listen and learn from those of you in the field as we look forward to the future.
When we return from the field and speak to the customers at our headquarters in Florida, another piece of the puzzle becomes clear; the customers are asking to mount their fish! We are receiving orders in-house from customers returning from their vacations and fishing trips and one part seems to be missing; new captains are pitching the mounts to the customers, but not sealing the deal. The customers after coming home are reaching out to us. We have written more orders on behalf of captains in the last 2 months then all last year!
Although we are happy to help, don’t be afraid to write the order. The customer wants it. It gives us great pleasure to show up in Quepos, Costa Rica, with commission for a captain who sold his first fish with our help. Keep in mind if the customers are calling us, you’re 90% there. You just need to write it up! The fishing throughout Costa Rica is red hot and the boats are sailing. Keep up the good work and continue to communicate with us! We have the tools you need!
Special thanks to Joel Jefferson for his help on this trip. Joel is our Area Rep for Los Suenos and Northern Costa Rica. Also, a special thanks to our Area Rep in Marina Pez Vela, Quepos, John Mumford.
