Location & Habitat: Muskellunge are found in lakes and large rivers from northern Michigan, northern Wisconsin, and northern Minnesota through the Great Lakes region, north into Canada, throughout most of the St Lawrence River drainage, and northward throughout the upper Mississippi valley, although the species also extends as far south as Chattanooga in the Tennessee River valley. Also, a small population are found in the Broad River in South Carolina. Several North Georgia reservoirs also have healthy stocked populations of muskie. They are also found in the Red River drainage of the Hudson Bay basin.
Description: The Muskie or Muskellunge has an elongated body, flat head, and dorsal, pelvic and anal fins set far back on the body. The Muskellunge are a light silver, brown, or green, with dark vertical stripes on the flank, which may tend to break up into spots. In some cases, markings may be absent altogether, especially in fish from turbid waters. This is in contrast to northern pike, which have dark bodies with light markings. A reliable method to distinguish the two similar species is by counting the sensory pores on the underside of the mandible. A muskie will have seven or more per side, while the northern pike never has more than six. The lobes of the caudal fin in muskellunge come to a sharper point, while those of northern pike are more generally rounded.
The muskie spawns when the water temperature is 48 to 59 degrees. A 40-pound female can produce more than 200,000 eggs. They generally spawn twice, the second time about 14 days after the first time. the muskie's eggs settle to the bottom of the river or lakes.
Fish Molding Process
We have and continue to travel the world to make our one of a kind molds as they are a vital part in order to handcraft the most popular fish mounts on the market. Our patented molds are then used to create the various fish models from which we can reproduce the life-like fish trophy mounts.
We do not extend, shorten or modify an existing model to fulfill an order. Instead we use one of the over 10,000 models of various sizes and species available. And we can ofcourse customize the mount to fulfill your needs and we are confident that we can build your custom fish mount regardless of inch increment or fish species.
We build one fish at a time to match the length, girth, and all of the specific characteristics and details only YOUR FISH displays. [Complete Molding Process]
